How Should I Name My Attachment Files?

When it comes to naming attachment files for your query, there are a few general guidelines that you should keep in mind.

When Agent Provides A Naming Format:

First and foremost, always follow the agent's requirements. If the agent specifies a particular naming convention, always follow their instructions.

When Agent Does Not Provide A Naming Format:

If the agent doesn't specify a naming convention, generally accepted guidelines recommend that your file name include:

  • Your name
  • The project title

Examples of proper filenames include:

  • JohnDoe_MyGreatNovel
  • Doe_MyGreatNovel
  • JohnDoe_MyGreatNovel_Synopsis (should the agent require separate submittals)

How Querier Names Attachments:

Querier uses the '<FirstName><LastName>_<Title>' naming convention.

Should the agent require a different format when submitting by email, you may either:

1. download the attachment from the Gmail draft, rename, and reattach, being sure to remove the initial attachment

2. use the 'Add to Query' feature to download the attachment, rename as required, and attach to the Gmail draft

When submitting attachments to forms that require an alternative naming convention:

1. use the 'Add to Query' feature to download the attachment and rename as required before posting to the form

When submitting nonfiction proposals:

When an agent requires a full nonfiction proposal, Querrier will use the proposal you uploaded when creating your Query Template.
